Hello and goodbye blog watchers, this is going to be my last blog post for the term. Thank you for viewing my blog, I'll see you all next year. =)

I'll tell you about my favourite subject at Enrich, passion time. For passion time I made a scooter with my friend Max. The first thing we did for our scooters was to see if we coulld get a welder to come in. The welder said "yes" so that started us off. Next, we started planning our scooters, then we gave the designs to our welder to make the scooters. After that Max and I decided that we would spray paint our scooters. It was quite a ong process to do our spraypainting because we had to scratch out scooters up with metal sponges. Once we had did that we had to cover the parts which we were spraypainting.  Darryn, then showed us how to spraypaint our scooters.  This is what they ended up looking like:

The unheared story of Goldolocks and the 3 bears

Today was week 6 for Enrich,  term 4. In the            morning we did passion time. For passion time I     am writing a story called "The unheared story of    Goldilocks and the 3 bears". It is also in "kiwi"       version wich means it contains New Zeland things  like kiwifruit and pine wood. The story is about      when Goldilocks' Mother is out and Goldilocks      runs out of kiwifruit. She is hungry so she looks     for some kiwi fruit. That is all I'm up to  at the        moment. Peace out and and have a nice day!

Hurricane Sandy

Today was week 5 for term 4 at enrich. Between morning tea and lunch we had must dos and picks. First for must dos and  picks I did the Hurricane Sandy must do workshop. Hurricane Sandy is a massive Hurricane that has hit New York area over in America. At the workshop we watched a video of Hurricane Sandy. Then we discussed what we felt about it, what were the good things about it, what were the bad things, what could be the solutions, and what we were thinking about. We thought one of the good things was for President Obama because when the Hurricane came, he went over to New York to help the people there. The good thing for him was that some more people might of voted for him because they thought he would help if there was another natural disaster.

Spinning Matchstick

Today was the last day for our must dos and picks. Also, if you have been keeping up to date with the weeks of the school terms, you should also know that this is week 3 out of 8 for term 4 at Enrich. Well, back to the must dos and picks. One of the picks I did today was a science experiment called The Spinning Matchstick. I did the experiment with my friend Travis. First we had to balance a one dollar coin on a twenty cence coin. After we needed to balance the match stick on top of the one dollar coin. Next we had to cover the coins and matchstick with a see-through plastic cup. Once we had done that we rubbed a blown up balloon on the carpet to create static electricity. We then circled the cup with the balloon which made the matchstick spin. You are probably wondering why the matchstick spun. This is  why. When we rubbed the ballon on a course surface we gave the balloon additional electrons which made a static charge. The balloon repells the electrons from the matchstick because it has too many electrons but it doesn't have enough protons so it tries to attract the matchsticks protons which makes the matchstick spin.

Today was week 2 of term 4 2012.  We started off as we usually do with the roll and seeing who wants to do the email. But we started off with a new game. It was called "all or nothing". The game was kind of like a variation of the game bullseye. In the game "all or nothing" you started off with 4 hoops and a clean rubbish bin (remember, the more teams the more rubbish bins and hoops). You get given one beanbag to throw. If you get your beanbag into the bin which should be inside the first hoop, you get one point. Also, you have to move the bin to the next hoop and throw the beanbag back to the person at the front of the line. If the person catches it, you get 2 points, if they drop it, you have start all over again. You have 3x5 minute rounds. If a team gets their beanbag to the very end hoop, gets the beanbag in and gets it thrown back safely without it being dropped the win and points don't matter. If no team gets their bean bag to the end and back, it all goes into points. The team with the most wins or points wins!

Last day for term 3

Today was the final day for term 3 at Enrich. 'Woot, Woot'!.  During chess time Alex, Max, Travis and I were chosen to learn how to use the activtable. We got to choose a character to use. I chose a dog, Max chose a frog, Travis chose a shark and Alex chose a T-rex dinosaur. We then went on to a page where we could do lots of games. Darryn and I played chess, Max and Travis played chess and Alex and our instuctor played chess aswell. The games were all side by side so it looked like we were having a mini chess tournament on the activboard. After morning tea we played the Wilson game called Bulls eye. We played the 'Enrich version' first with 4 hoops. In our version the first hoop is worth 3 points, the second hoop is worth 6 points and so on. My team won in our version. We did 3 rounds. Our scores were 51, 35, 21 and then 18.  After lunchtime we looked at the goals we had set earlier in the year. My 2 goals were to be in a group of people who I have never been with before. My second goal was to put a multi-media file on my blog. I achieved that goal when I put the top 10 most polluted cities video on my blog. I achieved my other goal when I did debating and when we were learning about air pollution.

Chess

Today was week 10 of Enrich for term three. In the morning we had leader board chess. I challenged my friend Marshmallow (Max). At the start, I started with scoholars but it didn't work but I managed to take  his rook and knight in my first four moves. At the end of the game I was winning by one point but I took out Marshmallow's knight just before the music rang. I am now fourth on the chess leaderboard, I am happy and Marshmallow is gutted!

Bullseye (changed)

Today was week 8 of term 3 for Enrich. We played the Wilson game called bullseye but we made a few changes to it. We got put into four groups. There were four hoops in front of us and we had to try throw some beanbags inside them. The first hoop was worth 3 points, the second hoop was worth 6 points and so on. When a team had used up all of their four beanbags the game stopped. The team with the most points won. We had three rounds. I was in team 1. After all three round the scores were 42, 42, 42 and 81. The scores are in the order of the teams.

Custom Glitter Text

Today I did 3-D drawing at Enrich.  It was about making illusions on the paper. If you didn't know, paper is flat so it wasn't actually a 3-Demensional masterpiece. It doesn't matter anyway, it's the papers fault not ours. So by the way our "flat" drawings did look pretty awesome. Here is my picture.

Custom Glitter Text

Today was week 6 out of 11 at Enrich. I did creative writing between morning tea and lunch time. It was very fun. We started off with a game called Rory Story Cubes. It was a game which you roll 9 dices with pictures on them. The picture that show up on the dices you use to make a story. The pictures on the dices don't have to be what they actually are. For example, a compass can be the sun or a snowflake.

Today was week 5 of Enrich. We did our enviromental projects today. For my enviromental project I was planning to make some bird feeders with Jack, Jordan, Josh and Max N. We wanted our birdhouses to have a shelter so thay can eat and live in them.  The house we might make is the barn with loft because they can eat in the shelter and live inside the loft. For just a house we might use the A-frame.For just a feeder we will probably use the Well House Feeder. We have also learnt what southland birds eat. You can click on the picture to get a closer look.

Teacher Comment

Hi Jake
Today was a full on day!  Did you enjoy the technology challenge?  I was impressed with your group work today.  You all listened to each other’s ideas, and worked together to build your launching device!  I also saw the arty side of you today when you worked on your mural idea - the detail that went into your Southland icons was amazing.  I wonder if a mural design might be a project you decide to get involved with starting from next week?  Katie.

Technology challenge

Today was the second day at Enrich for term 3. We did a technology challege. We had to make a shuttlecock launcher.  The launcher could only be operated by only one hand from one member of your group. The people in my group were Pippa, Travis, Stephen and Violet. The materials we got given were straws, tinfoil, cardboard, the insruction sheet{paper}, a plastic cup, some kebab sticks, cellotape and scissors. Our launcher is made out of the cup, kebab sticks and cellotape.

Start of term 3

Today was the first day for term 3 at Enrich. We started off with a Wilson game. The game was the same as last term's game. Like last time, we kept on getting close to the hoop but we'd always make a mistake like jumping when we weren't meant to.

We also learnt about the enviroment and how people live - this is our new concept for this term. We learnt about the slums of India and where they live. They eat out  of the rubbish from the dump trucks and make small rooms out of whatever they could use or find.

Last day for the Term!

Hi, its me again. Today it was the last day for the term. We first started off with a Co-operative game. It was called the No Name game because we haven't named it yet. You had to make a group of 3 people. Your group has to hold hands in a small circle. You will need someone else to yell out "jump". 8 feet away the should be a hoop for your group to get to. The aim of the game is to get all three people into the hoop by jumping at the same time and landing at the same time. The person yelling out "jump" can trick you because you can only jump when they clap. You need to try get your group into the hoop by jumping. BUT if someone in your team touches the rim of the hoop your group has to go back. IF 1 or 2 people land in the hoop your group have  to go back to the start. It is not as easy as you think!.

Key Compency:

Today we had to fill in a key compency sheet. It is our assessment for the term.  We also did a reflection - It was like a review on our term.
You can click on the photo to enlarge it.

Kowhaiwhai patterns

Today before and after morning tea we did Kowhaiwhai patterns for an art project. The reason we were doing it was because it was for symmetry. We had to create a kowhaiwhai pattern on a piece of paper and then draw it on a plank of wood. Then you start painting the picture on the wood with red, black and white.

Chess

Today we played chess to try get into the Southland Otago chess championships. To get into the championships we had to finish in the top 6 placings on the chess leaderboard. I finished 3rd on the leaderboard by beating Connor G in chess time. I won the game by beating him in points. I was also winning from the very start of the game to the very end of the game. Robert just hopped in the top 6 because Jack wasn't able to make the championship.

Passion time

Today I did passion time with Marshmallow(Max). We changed our scooter design plan. Instead of designing a scooter we are going to make  a scooter. The scooter I'm going to make is going to be red and black. Next fortnight we might have some one from SIT over to help us.This is my scooter plan(above).

Passion time

Today was the first day for passion time. I did scooter design with Marshmallow (Max). We looked at other scooter logos to create our own logos for our own designed scooter. Today I finished the clamp and my scooter logo. My scooter name is CASPER SCOOTERS. My scooter's badge is a smiling demon. Next time we should be creating a set of scooter bars and maybe some grips.

ANZAC Keynote

Today I did the ANZAC day "Where in the world?" keynote. I had to search the web for some answers to put on the keynote page. Some questions were really hard to find and some were easy to find. Some questions involved World War 1.

First day for term 2

Today was the first day back for term 2. We started off with some speed stacks and some chess. I played Travis in chess and won. Next we played a Wilson game. We played criss-cross and 5-ball. Criss-cross is when you have a large group of people and put them in two lines. Then you give 1-5 balls to each team and they throw diagonally missing out the person in front of them. The first team to get all the balls to the other end is the winner. 5-ball is when you are in 2 group circles throwing five balls around for 10 seconds not throwing the ball to the same person or the person beside you. After 10 seconds the people holding the balls hold them up. The team with the most balls left wins.

History pyramid building game

Today was week 8 of Enrich.
I did a pick today that was about building a pyramid for a king. It is very hard because you have to choose the right place to build it, the right food, the right workers and the right relaxing parts. After you have chosen those parts you have to go through the nile river. After that, the King will tell you if you chose the right objects/workers. If you got it right you carry on and if you got it wrong you start it all over again. When you get it right you carry on and it tells you how long your food and workers will last. If they last long enough you finish the game and if they don't you have to start over again.
