Hi Jake,

You seem to be really enjoying the maths we have been doing this term.  You have picked up the idea of scaling things quite well.  Do you think we have scaled our band rotunda well enough to fit our puppets? We'll soon find out!

Enjoy your last couple of weeks for the year

Maths talent development

Today I went to Maths talent development. We talked about making a rotunda puppet theatre so Enrich kids can make puppet shows instead of making a rotunda for preschool kids. We were measuring how big our puppet theatre was going to be. I was measuring the stairs.

Bullying workshop

Today I did a workshop about bullying. We talked about what to do when you are getting bullied.
Here are some ideas that we came up with for what to do when you are getting bullied.

Say "stop, it is not okay" in a strong, clear voice (shout if you need to)
Walk away
Get a teacher
Go play with some one else
Do something else to cheer you up

If I see someone being bullied I stand up for them and tell the bully to stop.
We talked about why people bully. Some people are lonely and some are jealous and that is why they bully others so that they can try and feel better.

Maths talent development and debating

Today we were learning how to increase and decrease 2D objects using ratios and grid paper. We increased a picture of a house. I made my house five times larger than the normal house. I also did an extra workshop for debating. My team had to debate on why families should only have one car. Some of our examples were.
Because it costs too much.
Because it is polluting the air.
So families can travel together.
My team won in the debate.

Cartooning

Today was week one and I did a pick workshop called cartooning. For cartooning we watched a video clip of someone using a photo and drawing a cartoon picture of that photo. We were taught to draw the eyes and mouth on the bottom half of the face. Then we got to copy off a cartoon picture of an All Blacks rugby player. I drew Dan Carter into a cartoon, it was hard because the teeth were hard to draw.

Two Stars and a Wish - Term 3 Reflection.

My two stars are what I liked about term 3 and my wish is what I want to happen in term 4.

My two stars are:
*  Writing talent development.
*  Mind mapping workshop.

My wish is to have more maths workshops

Halloween cartooning

Today I did a pick called cartooning. I had to draw or follow instructions to make a cartoon picture. I drew a U.F.O, a ninja animal, a dragon, a cartoon ship and a whale. I made a picture on comic life with most of my drawings (above). My favourite drawing is the dragon. I titled it scary animal freaks and halloween cartooning because it is green and black and looks a little scary. The U.F.O (top) is beaming up a radio so he doesn't get bored.

Hi Jake.
You had a busy day of writing today!  It was great to see you focussed and on task for the whole session!  You and T-J worked co-operatively to get the illustrations organised for the production of your story.  It will be great to see your finished product using Garageband.  Keep up the great effort Jake, and I am confident you will get your entry completed by next week.
Katie.

Making pictures on Active Inspire

Today we did our usual talent development but Alana and Darryn weren't here so Ruth and Jenny were here. I made pictures on Active Inspire and found some images on Google images. I sent T-J lots of images and pictures I made for our movie we are going to put on the MADE Awards. T-J made an alien called Gobstopper and used a gumball for his head and we used lines to draw his body. We got our pictures from cruzine.com and macmcrae.com. These pictures are bubblebobble and flying monster from macmcrae.com. T-J didn't like bubblebobble.

Dinoscopes

We have been using dinoscopes for the past few weeks. Dinoscopes are like a digital camera, but they can take really close up photos.  We used the dinoscopes to make a "What Am I?" poem.  We had to choose an object around the classroom, take photos using the dinoscope and then use these photos with clues to see if the reader could guess what the object was.  When you use the dinoscope it saves the pictures it takes as a screen shot.  Here are some pictures of what I took with the dinoscope. The top picture is a normal photo and the bottom picture is a picture taken with a dinoscope. Dinoscope photos show more details as they can zoom in 200 times closer than what we are able to look at an object with our own eyes.

Writing talent development

Today I did writing talent development. We used Garageband and did our own version of the Three Little Pigs. Katie showed us how to change the sound of your voice, how to add in sound effects, and how to play background music.  The vocals sounded really funny, especially the mouse voice.

Week 3 of Enrich

Today I did the debating workshop. Debating is like going to court. We did an activity on debating. I was on the bad side(on the side explaining about why humans are bad). The other side was explaining why humans are good. I was the second person to speak. I said humans are bad because we cut down the trees and if we cut down all of the trees we won't be able to breathe because the trees make the air. After the workshop we got our page signed off.

Interactions and Scamper

Today I had to do two "Picks", interactions and scamper. I did interactions first. My interaction was a ball hitting someones face. I made the ball with three popsicle sticks and a red bit of lego. I sellotaped it together. The person was made out of popsicle sticks and straws. I did my scamper pick with Nathan. We used a cup. We had heaps of different ideas of how to change it - like an ice cream cone.

Hi Jake.
Your first day back for Term 3 was great.  You were full of energy and ideas during our first writing session for Talent Development.  It was great to see you using your time wisely to compare and contrast two fairy tales.  You looked at all the elements and answered the questions with thought.  I'm please you are excited about this topic - I think it is going to be challenging, but at the same time lots of fun.  I'm pleased to see 2 workshops ticked off your Must Do sheet already!  You seemed to enjoy the drama session today and were fully involved in all the activities.  Well done Jake.
Katie.

Writing talent development

Today we got to choose what we wanted to do for talent development. The choices were art, writing and documentary. I chose writing because as soon as Alana said the choice a creative story popped in my head so I felt like I had to choose writing. My friend Max chose writing too. Katie is teaching the writing talent development group. We had a look at some of the movie clips from the competition we were going to be competing in for story telling. We had to do a task on two narratives. I did The three little pigs and Little red riding hood. I can't wait to do it next week.

Mosaic tuatara with Southland flag backround

We used this picture for the southland flag

This week we are sticking the tiles onto our main mosaic which we are doing together. We are doing a tuatara with the Southland flag backround. Our colours are dark blue, green, white, and a whitish orange. We are using four tiles, two at the top and two at the bottom.  We used the tuatara picture (below) for sketching out our tuatara picture.

HAPPY GIFTED WEEK!!!

This week is all about letting our giftedness explode.  During the term we have learned about different models of giftedness, (Renzullis and Gagnes).  I think that being gifted means you think differently, and because you think differently, you want to learn more and you are motivated to do so.  I am lucky, I get to go to Enrich every Tuesday.  I get to work with other children who think and are at the same stages as me.  I have more opportunities to develop my talents - for example:  Art.  I am able to take these new skills and use them at my home school as well.  Renzulli says adults are gifted if you have all of the following: Above Average Ability, Task Commitment and Creativity.  Gagne thinks differently.  He says you are born gifted and have talents.  The enviromental influence means that family or people around you encourage you to explore your talents.  I think this applies to me and being able to come to Enrich.

Talent Development

Tile Mosaic
Today I did Talent Development.   I did art and we are learning about mosaic art. Mosaic art is when you use pebbles, rocks and tiles to make a picture. The first examples of mosaic art were made with terra cotta cones.  We are going to make some mosaic art.   First we are making an easy mosaic like a number.  On my first mosaic art I am using orange, red and black.  For my second mosaic I am making a picture of the gates at Queens park using white, black, red, orange, grey, green and blue. We looked at some websites on mosaic art. I looked on google  images and found some terra cotta cone mosaics.

Last day of Enrich for term 1

Today is the final day of Enrich for term 1. I have learnt lots of new things like P4C, Fibonacci numbers, Mental edge, History, Interactions and lots of other things. I liked the Fibonacci number sequence the most because it was maths that is different to what I normally do, and I like doing maths. Enrich is a great challenge for us and it is harder than school.  Chess is one of the hard parts of Enrich. Chess is a challenging game that gets your brain thinking. We all have great fun at Enrich.

Today at Enrich

Today is week 9 of Enrich. Today I did a Multiple Intelligences workshop. We learnt what logical, linguistic and lots of other intelligences mean. There are 8 different types of multiple intelegences. I am strong at Intrapersonal, because I like working on my own, because I don't like people talking and taking over my ideas.

I also went to interactions. We talked about what the word meant  to us and then we made a mind map about human interactions that have happened in our life like  in sport, school and home.

Enrich

Today I learn't P4C which is Philosophy for children. We learnt what about getting awards and what we do when we get a reward like a sticker. None of us liked getting a sticker for a reward because they would throw it in the rubbish or flush it down the toilet. I would throw it in the rubbish. We talked about if we wanted to have a teacher that gave us broken toys or a teacher that makes us level up.

Room 7 at Enrich

Today is week 8 of Enrich. On Friday my class came to Enrich to learn how to film and make movies with imovie. First we watched some other people's movies to see what we were going to do. First we planned our movies then we went to film our movie. My partners were Nathan and my friend Mitchell. We filmed our movie out the front where the colourful couches are. Our movie was about interviewing a pro motocross rider called James Stewart. I was the news person, Mitchell was James Stewart and Nathan was James Stewart's Dad. Nathan wore a hat and sunglasses and Mitchell wore a police helmet for a MX helmet and shiny sunglasses. I wore some real glasses. We had a great time making our movie. After we finished we got to put music and sound effects on our movie. My sound effects were a motorbike revving and a racing car going by. My music sounded like country music. In the end we went back to school on the bus and talked about our fun day.

Week 7 of Enrich

Today is week 7 of an 11 week term.
At Enrich we learn new things. Most of them are so interesting like history and P4C. My favourite part of Enrich is making new friends and the maths workshops. I liked the Fibonacci number sequences because they can create patterns on paper by following the number sequence.
History was interesting because we were learning about space shuttles and what they did, how much they cost (over $3 billion dollars to build) and one has just been retired - the Discovery. The Discovery Space Shuttle was special because it took the Hubble Telescope into space. The Hubble telescope takes all sorts of interesting photos in space which we looked at today too. They were impressive.

Enrich

Today is week 6 for 2011, term one. We are here at Enrich  because we are gifted and talented. Enrich has lots of fun learning to do. Such as maths - Fibonacci number sequences, P4C- Philosophy for children, questioning and lots of other interesting things. We all have a great time and we also make lots of friends.
